BOMBYX

BOMBYX

Bombyx is a design-integrated tool aimed at facilitating real-time Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) during the early stages of building design. It is built upon the 3D software Rhinoceros and utilizes Grasshopper as a visual programming language. Bombyx allows users to select different materials and building systems and make modifications to the building's geometry, with the calculated environmental impact being continuously updated in real-time. It serves as a tool for pre-BIM design, where users may not have sufficient information to create a complete Building Information Model (BIM).

The tool offers two different approaches: top-down and bottom-up. The top-down approach enables users to categorize the building based on several inputs, while the bottom-up approach allows users to construct each element of the building starting from material selection onwards.

Bombyx provides a user-friendly interface that can be easily integrated into design workflows. It is customizable to suit specific project and user preferences. Moreover, Bombyx is an open-source tool, allowing contributions from the community to further advance the field of parametric LCA in the construction sector.

Bike To The Future

Bike To The Future

A cycling simulator in virtual reality (VR) as a new survey tool to study bicyclists' behavior, perceptions, and preferences in different environments. VR provides a better understanding of non-existent designs, which has been always a limitation of classic survey methods in transportation engineering. The proposed user-centered approach provides evidence-based design guidance which enables transport engineers and urban designers to evaluate the impact of their plans on travel behavior before the infrastructure is actually built. Furthermore, it can be used as a framework for public engagement to interact with non-specialists.

City Energy Analyst (CEA)

City Energy Analyst (CEA)

City Energy Analyst (CEA) is an open-source software for the analysis of energy systems in cities. CEA helps you to analyse the effects of building retrofits, land-use planning, district heating and cooling and renewable energy on the future costs, emissions and energy consumption of neighbourhoods and districts. In Addition CEA helps you to find the optimal location, size and operation of energy generation and distribution technologies for a neighbourhood or a district of your choice. For the moment, CEA supports neighbourhoods and districts in Temperate (e.g., Switzerland) and Tropical climates (e.g., Singapore).

Hive

Hive

Hive helps to understand performative consequences of architectural design decisions on energy efficiency, comfort, cost and emissions, without needing to bother with the many technicalities and details that come with fully fledged simulation programs. The focus lies on solar and sunpath analysis, monthly energy demand assessment for cooling, heating and electricity, as well as an integrated consideration of renewable energy system technologies, particularly building integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV). The purpose of Hive is to be accessible, easily comprehensible and fast, such that it does not hinder the creative design process but rather supports it. Therefore, most of the physics core is hidden from the user (but accessible).

IÖ App

IÖ App

The IÖ app aims foremost to provide students with a more innovative, intuitive tool than a pocket calculator, or Excel; one that suits the subjective nature of real estate potential analysis. The mobile app also seeks to better accommodate the site-dictated nature of the architectural discipline. It would furnish students with a hands-on tool for appraising real estate parameters in real-world settings, visibly reinforcing for them the direct link between the built environment and its surrounding economic context.

Natcap Tool

Natcap Tool

The NatCap Tool is an interactive, Singapore-oriented 3D platform that allows users to easily show and modify different types of raster-based landcovers and to calculate several different ecosystem services on top of those landcovers and to show those results. It also allows users to enhance the workflow with the ability to show and edit point clouds within the 3D space for more realistic visual representation and user experience.

ur-scape

ur-scape

ur-scape is a visual and interactive planning support tool. It integrates data at multiple scales to support efforts to make more sustainable and resilient cities and regions.
